Learn more about polluted runoff

Tainter Lake isn't a fluke.

More and more Wisconsin lakes are experiencing blue-green algae problems every year, and it’s getting worse.

Fortunately, we know what the problem is and how to fix it.

Excess phosphorus pollution is responsible for the blue-green algae blooms that turn lakes like Tainter and Menomin green every summer.

Clean Wisconsin is working with the citizens, farmers, and businesses near Lakes Tainter and Menomin to find cost-effective solutions to reduce phosphorus runoff. Our expert staff map out solutions, coordinate resources, and advise stakeholders on action plans. This is important for all of Wisconsin – it will serve as a model for restoring our waterways in the rest of the state.

By donating to Clean Wisconsin today, you help cover the costs of traveling to communities like Menomonie, Wisconsin, where we do the important work of finding solutions to our state's biggest water problem.
